Freakin Lasers on Freakin Mice!!

posted on: 2006-09-15 at 11:54:00 PM

I just had to say that Laser Mice kick ass. I've had the Logitech optical "iFeel" mouse for about four years now (it had force-feedback!). The leap from ball tracking to optical was amazing. No moving parts. You could put your mouse on the wall, and it would work!

Now I'm all about Laser. I just got the Logitech G5 Laser Mouse. The difference between optical and laser is night and day. It's funny how things keep getting better, even when you think it can't get any better.

It's hard to describe -- except to say that the mouse reacts to every movement. With optical mice, it feels like the reaction is precise .. but, for example, when you slide your optical mouse really fast accross the mouse pad, the mouse cursor usually "hiccups" and pops around the screen erratically. The Laser mouse is perfect. The cursor slides just like you'd expect.

The G5 has some awesome features, too. There's a sensitivity adjustment right on the mouse, so I can change the "mouse speed" without having to open up any software control panels. This is great for Photoshop, because when I'm doing pixel-perfect fine tuning with the Lasso tool, I can crank up the accuracy without having to break out of my work in progress. Also, there's this super rad counter-weight insert where I can place various 1.7 and 4.5 gram weights in whatever configuration works best for me. I LOVE IT!
